At Westfield Junior School, Phonics is delivered as additional support for those pupils in our SEN Unit and Year 3/4 who did not meet the expected standard in the phonics screening recheck in Year 2.
We use Read Write Inc. as our systematic synthetic phonics programme, enabling children to develop reading fluency and comprehension, spell and write with confidence and learn to articulate their ideas and understanding.
Pupils who are receiving phonics support are each loaned a fully decodable, synthetic phonics reading book to take home which is carefully aligned to their phonics phase.
